Other Considerations For Air Shifter Installations

There are some things not normally included with most air shifters that need to be considered and planned for.

A handlebar mounted "Shift Button" push button will be needed. You can add a button specifically for this purpose or use an existing one. For example, you can share shifting duties with your horn button by installing a switch to select horn or shift. Or, for race applications you can use a button that is no longer in use.

An air reservoir will be needed. There are air bottles commercially available. If you go this route be sure and check your sanctioning organization rules. Most will require a DOT approved bottle. Some air bottles are DOT approved and some are not. Or, you can put the air in your frame or (as we did) your swingarm. The in-frame or in-swingarm setup will usually get around the DOT requirement.

An air gauge will be needed to monitor your air pressure.

A filler valve will be needed.

Mounting brackets, hardware and/or fab work will be required for mounting the pivot end of the air cylinder.

Hardware and/or fab work will be required for connecting the air cylinder rod to the shift lever or linkage.

Remote mounted solenoid valve installations may require additional brackets, hardware, fittings, air line tubing and/or fab work.

Air line fittings may need to be changed or substituted for some installations.

Additional electrical terminals may be required for some installations.
